![]() ![]() So, LMR barrels were indeed shipped from Line to IHC, and they piled up in the stockroom. The government was supposed to furnish IHC all of the milling machines to manufacture the rifle, but due to higher priorities, like tanks and new jets, the promised milling machines were delayed for over a year, and did not arrive until the Jan/Feb 1953 timeframe. IHC had problems getting their milling machines. Hence, the LMR barrel was a government furnished item, and was known as "government free-issue." Line Material got the contract to manufacture replacement barrels from Ordnance, and Ordnance directed them to ship the LMR barrels to both IHC and HRA.
